The challenge was to create a beautiful contemporary backyard and edible garden that brought the clients’ esthetic to life. Special attention was paid to the hardscape: the linear pattern of concrete pavers intentionally contrasted with fieldstone and pebble stone; pebble stone resolved drainage and grading issues. A variety of fruit, vegetables, perennial flowers and ornamental grass plantings were selected for artistic balance, food production and increased privacy.

I wanted an artistic and beautiful garden for planting vegetables and for outdoor entertaining and Bertha did just that! As an interior designer, I pay close attention to the details. Bertha does too. She understood my esthetic so that we could work together as a team. – D.Z.
